What is Text Behind Image?

Text Behind Image is a trending visual effect where text appears to be placed behind the main subject of a photo — like the subject is standing in front of a magazine cover headline. This tool uses an in-browser AI model to automatically detect the subject (person, pet, or object), then layers your text between the background and the subject. The result is a polished, professional-looking image perfect for Instagram, TikTok, posters, and YouTube thumbnails.

How the AI Works

The tool runs U²-Netp — a lightweight salient-object segmentation network — directly in your browser using WebAssembly via Hugging Face Transformers.js. The model is only about 5 MB and loads in seconds. It works on a wide range of subjects: people, pets, products, food, vehicles, and more. The model downloads once on first use and is cached by your browser, so every subsequent image is instant. No server processing, no upload to a third-party API — your image never leaves your device.

How to Use It

Upload an image (or drag and drop). Wait a few seconds for the AI to separate the subject. Type the text you want, pick a bold display font like Anton or Bebas Neue, choose a color and size, and position it behind the subject. Add a stroke for extra impact. Download as PNG (transparent areas preserved) or JPG.

Tips for the Best Results

Use photos with a clear, distinct subject — portraits, isolated objects, or pets work best. Bold display fonts (Anton, Bebas Neue, Archivo Black) make the strongest visual impact. Try positioning the text so it slightly overlaps the subject — that's what sells the effect. Bright, saturated colors that contrast with the background pop the most.
