PPI (Pixels Per Inch) is a measurement of image resolution that indicates how many pixels are displayed per inch when an image is printed. Higher PPI values result in sharper, more detailed prints, while lower values can lead to pixelated or blurry output.
Simply upload your image and adjust the desired print size using the slider. The tool will instantly calculate the PPI and show you whether your image has sufficient resolution for high-quality printing at that size. Switch between inches and centimeters as needed.
For professional printing, 300 PPI is the gold standard. However, 150 PPI is often sufficient for most purposes. Images below 100 PPI will likely appear pixelated when printed, especially when viewed up close.
Standard photo prints (4x6", 5x7", 8x10") typically require at least 300 PPI. Larger prints like posters can work with 150-200 PPI since they're usually viewed from a distance. Billboards may use as low as 20-50 PPI because they're viewed from far away.
While you can't add real detail to an image, you can use our image resizer tool to upscale images using AI technology. This can help improve print quality for images with borderline PPI values.
A 12-megapixel image (4000x3000 pixels) can print at 13.3x10 inches at 300 PPI, or 26.6x20 inches at 150 PPI. The higher the megapixel count, the larger you can print while maintaining quality.
