What is the Highlighter Tool?

The Highlighter Tool allows you to add semi-transparent colored marks to images for annotations, emphasis, and visual notes. Draw directly on screenshots, documents, photos, or diagrams with customizable highlighter colors, brush sizes, and opacity levels. Perfect for creating instructional materials, marking key information on documents, or adding visual annotations to presentations and tutorials.

How to Highlight Images Online

Upload any image (PNG, JPG, WebP) to begin adding highlights. Select your preferred highlighter color from the palette - yellow, green, pink, blue, orange, purple, cyan, red, or amber. Adjust the brush size slider to control highlight width and the opacity slider for transparency level. Click and drag on the image to draw highlighter marks. Use eraser mode to remove unwanted highlights, or clear all to start over. Download your annotated image in PNG, JPG, or WebP format.

Highlighter Colors and Customization

Choose from 10 vibrant highlighter colors to match your annotation needs. Yellow provides classic highlighting for text emphasis. Green works well for positive feedback and approvals. Pink and red highlight warnings or important notices. Blue and cyan suit professional documents and technical annotations. Adjust opacity from 10% (subtle) to 100% (solid) to control highlight intensity. Brush size ranges from 5px for fine details to 100px for broad coverage.

When to Use Image Highlighting

Use the highlighter tool for creating educational materials with annotated screenshots, marking important sections on scanned documents, adding visual emphasis to presentation slides, or creating step-by-step tutorials with highlighted interface elements. Perfect for teachers creating lesson materials, designers providing feedback on mockups, technical writers documenting software interfaces, or students studying from lecture slides and textbooks.

Eraser and Editing Features

Switch to eraser mode to selectively remove highlight marks while preserving your original image and other annotations. The eraser follows your brush size setting for precise control. Clear All button instantly removes all highlights to restart your annotation. Unlike text editing software, this tool works directly on images including screenshots, PDFs converted to images, and scanned documents without requiring the original source file.

Download Highlighted Images

Export highlighted images in PNG format for lossless quality and transparency support, JPG for smaller file sizes ideal for sharing via email or web upload, or WebP for modern browsers with optimal compression. All highlights are permanently rendered onto the image, creating a flattened output that displays identically across all devices and platforms. Downloaded images preserve original resolution and quality with your highlights seamlessly integrated.
