Feathering is a technique that creates a soft, gradual transition at the edges of an image. Instead of having hard, sharp borders, feathered edges smoothly fade into transparency or a background color. This effect is commonly used in photo editing to blend images together seamlessly, create vignette effects, or prepare images for compositing.
Upload your image and adjust the feather size to control how far the fade extends from the edges. Use the softness slider to control the gradient curve - higher values create smoother transitions. Choose between rectangular or elliptical feathering shapes, and select whether to fade to transparency (for PNG export) or a solid color. You can also choose which specific edges to feather.
Rectangle feathering applies the fade effect from each edge independently, creating a frame-like effect that follows the image borders. Ellipse feathering creates an oval-shaped fade that radiates from the center, producing a classic vignette look. The ellipse option works particularly well for portraits and focal point emphasis.
