Understanding Color Schemes

Color schemes are based on the color wheel and color theory principles. Each scheme type creates different moods and visual relationships. Use these harmonious combinations to create professional, visually appealing designs.

Complementary Colors

Complementary colors sit opposite each other on the color wheel (180° apart). They create high contrast and visual tension, making each color appear more vibrant. Use for bold designs that need strong visual impact.

Analogous Colors

Analogous colors are neighbors on the color wheel (within 30-60°). They create harmonious, cohesive palettes that feel natural and pleasing. Often found in nature, these schemes work well for serene, unified designs.

Triadic Colors

Triadic schemes use three colors equally spaced on the wheel (120° apart). They offer strong visual contrast while maintaining harmony. Best used with one dominant color and two accents.

Split-Complementary

This scheme uses a base color plus the two colors adjacent to its complement. It provides high contrast like complementary but with less tension, making it easier to balance in designs.

Monochromatic

Monochromatic palettes use variations of a single hue with different saturation and lightness values. They create cohesive, sophisticated designs that are easy to balance and always harmonious.
