What is AI Viewer?

AI Viewer is a free online tool that opens Adobe Illustrator AI files directly in your browser. See the artwork, switch between artboards, and read document details like artboard size, artboard count, and the Illustrator version that created the file, all without installing Illustrator or any other design software. Your file is processed locally on your device and is never uploaded to a server.

How to Open an AI File Without Illustrator

Select or drop an AI file and the viewer renders it instantly on a zoomable canvas. Modern AI files contain PDF compatible data, which the viewer uses to draw the artwork exactly as it appears in Illustrator. This is the quickest way to preview a logo a designer sent you, check old archived artwork, or open Illustrator files on a computer, tablet, or Chromebook without an Adobe subscription.

Convert AI to PNG or JPG

Export the current artboard as PNG, JPG, or WebP at 1x to 4x resolution. PNG keeps transparency, which is ideal for extracting logos and icons with clean edges. Since AI artwork is vector based, higher export scales produce sharp results at larger pixel sizes, for example a 500 pt artboard exported at 4x becomes a crisp 2000 px image. You can also copy the preview straight to your clipboard.

View Multiple Artboards

Illustrator documents often contain several artboards, for example logo variations, business card front and back, or social media sizes in one file. The artboards panel lists each one with a thumbnail and its dimensions in points. Click any artboard to preview it and export it separately.

Which AI Files Are Supported

The viewer supports AI files from Illustrator 9 and newer that were saved with the Create PDF Compatible File option, which is enabled by default in Illustrator. Files saved without PDF compatibility show a placeholder instead of artwork, and legacy EPS based files from Illustrator 8 or older cannot be displayed. If your file does not open, re-save it in Illustrator with PDF compatibility turned on.
