How does PDF image extraction work?
Our tool uses advanced PDF parsing to identify and extract all embedded images directly in your browser. The process scans through each page, identifies image objects (JPEG, PNG, and other formats), and converts them into downloadable files without any quality loss.
What types of images can be extracted?
The extractor supports all common image formats found in PDFs:
- JPEG/JPG images
- PNG images with transparency
- BMP and TIFF images
- Embedded vector graphics converted to raster
- Images in RGB, Grayscale, and CMYK color spaces
Is my PDF file uploaded anywhere?
No, your PDF never leaves your browser. All processing happens locally on your device using JavaScript and WebAssembly. This means your documents remain completely private and secure - we never see or store your files.
Why are some images filtered out?
By default, we filter out tiny images (smaller than 20x20 pixels) and remove duplicates to give you only the meaningful content. These are usually decorative elements, dots, or lines that aren't actual images. You can disable these filters using the toggle switches.
Can I extract images from encrypted PDFs?
If the PDF is password-protected but allows content extraction, you'll be prompted to enter the password. PDFs with restricted permissions that prevent content extraction cannot be processed to respect the document's security settings.
What's the maximum file size supported?
Since processing happens in your browser, the limit depends on your device's memory. Most modern devices can handle PDFs up to 100MB comfortably. For very large files, the extraction might take longer but will still work as long as your browser has enough memory.
